  • Keith Bradley

Abstract

This essay examines material from Marguerite Yourcenar's newly published correspondence that addresses her conception of the historical novel, and in particular enhances knowledge of how her most celebrated work, Mémoires d'Hadrien, is to be understood. It complements the author's analysis of Yourcenar’s novel in his study, Marguerite Yourcenar's Hadrian: Writing the Life of A Roman Emperor (2024).
